Altar Servers - Boys and girls in grades 4-8 are encouraged to serve as altar servers. This is considered a privilege and the servers’ conduct must reflect it. In order to continue to serve as an altar server, a student must have at least average conduct grades and must show average effort in his scholastic subjects.
Ballet & Star Dancers - Ballet classes are offered on an optional basis to boys and girls in Pre-School, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten during the school day and to 1st through 5th grade students after school. Students in 8th grade may participate in the Star Dancers program, a special dance program offered as part of the school’s arts program. Students explore several dance forms including jazz, flamenco, rhumba, salsa, cha-cha, samba, and more. The ballet and star dancers programs help students develop coordination and concentration, build self-esteem, help children learn to follow directions, assist in the development of visual perception and balance, and teach children how to handle their bodies for everyday activities and for sports.
Cheerleaders - Students in grades 5-8 may try out for the cheerleaders. Parents are responsible for the cheerleader uniform. The coach will communicate with the cheerleaders as to the schedule of games and tournaments. The group requires hard work and dedication, but the students benefit by excellent training. Any student participating must maintain average grades in academics and conduct in order to remain in the cheerleaders.
Quiz Bowl - Students in grades 5-8 may join the Quiz Bowl. This group learns the exciting Quiz Bowl team strategies and participates in various tournaments throughout the year.
Music - The school has the following music programs: Band, Choir, and Precorder.
Sports - Boys and girls in grades 5-8
have the opportunity to try out for participation in the CSAL sports program.
Student Council - Students are offered opportunities to develop leadership skills through participation in the Student Council. Two representatives are elected from each class in grades 6-8, and students in Pre-School through 5th grade are represented by Middle School representatives. The offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer are elected by the Middle School students. Students in grades 7 and 8, who have attended SAS for at least one year and meet the criteria set by the Student Council, are eligible for these positions. All Student Council members must maintain average grades in academics and conduct.
