The Lower Elementary School Program is designed to build the academic skills which are the
foundation for all future learning. In the Lower Elementary grades, (grades 1-2) theme based
learning units encourage students to expand their general knowledge as they investigate
related topics in reading, math, science, religion, composition, and social studies. Students
receive small group instruction as they move about the various classroom learning centers.
This style of teaching makes learning personalized and rewarding, and is enhanced by the
small class sizes (approximately 22 students per class.)
The children work at the computer in the classrooms for 80 minutes a week. Students also
work in writing, math, and other learning centers during computer time. Students also work
in the second floor computer lab for 40 minutes a week with various educational software or
educational sites on the internet.
The students are able to explore their talents, both academically and socially, through music,
art, and physical education. Students are also encouraged to participate in age-appropriate
extra-curricular activities such as choir, chess, cheerleading, band, ballet, altar service,
sports, scouts, student council, quiz bowl, and geography and spelling bees.
