The Lower Elementary School Program is designed to build the academic skills
which are the foundation for all future learning. In the Lower Elementary
grades, (grades 1-2) theme based learning units encourage students to expand
their general knowledge as they investigate related topics in reading,
math, science, religion, composition, and social studies. Students receive
small group instruction as they move about the various classroom learning
centers. This style of teaching makes learning personalized and rewarding,
and is enhanced by the small class sizes (approximately 22 students per
class.)
We received a grant for Primary Integrated Language Arts (PILA). The grant included computers, computer software and supplementary materials to enhance children's listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The children work at the computer in the classrooms with partners for 80 minutes a week. Students also work in writing, math, science, social studies and other learning centers during computer time. Students also work individually at a computer in the second floor computer lab for 40 minutes with various educational software or educational sites on the internet. |
